Microsoft ZENworks Network Application Launcher (NAL) is a network solution used to configure and deploy the Windows Desktops. It requires a Smartphone or other mobile device with the Windows Desktops client pre-installed. Mobile Device management is possible, but outside the scope of this chapter. For Microsoft ZENworks users, there is a FREE version of NAL that needs to be downloaded and installed. The other versions require a paid subscription. NAL is a ZENworks only product.
To install or activate NAL, you must have an active subscription to a paid ZENworks product version. The most cost effective way to manage NAL is to use the NALalyse application.

Novell ZENWorks Desktop has the potential to be a very powerful app environment.
With more than 700 desktop applications currently available in ZENWorks 2010, there are many opportunities for desktop users to customize the look and feel and functionality of each application, or add in new applications from the internet.
However, there are some basic issues that need to be addressed, to make ZENWorks more useful for users.
Some of these issues come from the nature of how ZENWorks was developed, and others are inherent to the older content of the Windows App Repository, or are problems that will crop up with many ZENWorks users as new applications are added over time.
NALalyse can help – it is a simple, easy to use, desktop app that runs on any Windows 7, 8 or 10 machine, and can be used to quickly document, sanity check and report on the current state of ZENWorks for Desktops.
The Free Standard Edition of NALalyse comes with all of the functionality of the Standard Edition with two exceptions – it does not have a built-in database of ZENWorks objects, and cannot search for NAL objects that don’t have NALalyse reporting turned on.
