Clone Setup GONE!
Im in the process of setting up a clone of my Win XP machine so i can test and develop. I have been using this method for a while now but after spending a few hours setting up the clone i figure i need to share some of my findings.
The first thing you need is a USB keyboard and mouse with the included prefab plug in. This will give you maximum performance with your development.
Next thing you need is a video card.
The clone machine is an OLD SB GFX compatible card. Now other then the SB card the Clone machine does support a out dated OLD ATI 9100. I have this card working but its not used in the clone machine. The clone machine supports any card that is compatible with ati 1.5.2 in all it’s features.
Now i use to use one GFX card on one machine, but sometimes i find myself using 2 GFX card’s to make up one screen. This also depends on what the machine can support.
In my case the Clone machine can support 2 monitors at the same time if i plug in 2 GFX cards. Now there is a way to get around this. This was worked out by LightScribe.com
In this case you have to disable hardware-acceleration for the clone machine. in windows goto:
system setting -> advanced system settings
then goto desktop -> display settings
Now goto configuration.
The next screen is where u will configure your clone machine.
I found that to use the clone machine for development the best setting for me was clone-screen resolution and clone-screen setup mode.
The next step is setting up the display settings.
for me i use the secondary monitor to display a boot loader windows with a command window on the secondary monitor. This is used to monitor the clone machine activity and if there is an error the boot loader in the secondary monitor is the first alert i get.
Now once the clone machine boots up or if you just want to check it out from an external monitor just boot it to the cloned desktop.
