With the possibility to create multiple accounts on a single computer, an operating system gives you the possibility to lock your desktop so nobody else has access to it. Based on a similar method, specialized applications such as Time Lock promise to offer enhanced security in order to keep pranksters at bay if you leave your desk.
Easy to deploy and set up
The application comes in a small package and the installation process is done in the blink of an eye. Depending on how you want to use it, you are asked whether or not to have the lockdown automatically triggered at startup or take care of this yourself.
One thing that needs to be mentioned is that its core function is to protect other accounts used on one computer, except the administrator. What's more, once installed from the admin account, it is deployed and usable only by all other accounts that don't have admin rights.
Set a timer for automatic lockdown
Once in lockdown state, nothing other than your wallpaper and a few controls are displayed. The computer's power options can be accessed, which isn't really useful because if your work is not saved, everything is lost if these are triggered.
Attempting to unlock the computer asks for the password you set in the setup process. You also need to specify a time period after which your desktop is automatically locked again, with an additional option to cut off the Internet connection.
Far from being a pro of its kind
Unfortunately, there is no possibility to modify the password so you need to pay extra attention when providing the initial master password. What's more, the application also has its own interface which displays time limit, as well as time passed, with a button to manually locked your desktop.
However, this makes practicality questionable, because if the admin is the only one capable of unlocking the computer, it's difficult to understand why you'd want to lock down your station without the possibility to unlock it.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Time Lock does a pretty good job at locking the desktop, blocking virtually all shortcuts and preventing system functions from being used. However, it's rather confusing, without the possibility to use it on an admin account and no option to deploy it on your local network, since it's dedicated to accounts without admin privileges.

I am not using the 7 platform but I would assume the LKM&FileManager app. I would have assumed that there is also an app on the latest version.
I have a keyboard that has 2 USB ports on the back that I rarely use. I do not think I can plug my home audio system into them and they are not regular USB ports used by my phone. And they are both labeled USB 2.0 and will not show up when plugged into a regular USB port. Is it possible to transfer data between the slots?
The first solution requires a fair amount of knowledge about the operating system. Normally you can’t really tamper with stuff in the Linux kernel itself. What you can do, however, is to mount the filesystem in question on the loop device and access it that way.
Edit: I have checked out the link and it seems that it is not the simple case. It’s a bit more complicated than that.
Let’s assume you have a Hard Disk drive with Linux installed on it, and you now want to move it to a new laptop (USB thumb drive?).
The Windows 7 installer will format the drive, and the Linux installer will use the installed files. You could of course remove the Linux installation on the previous drive and install Linux again. That will not create a separate partition so the next step is:
I personally use the GParted Live disc, which is freely available from ubuntu. It will handle all that for you. Then you can either install Ubuntu yourself again, or later on delete the installer and install it again and use the previous installation.
I have not experimented yet with a USB hard disk formatted on Linux. But I assume that it is possible.
I have read the matter with respect to the latest versions of Ubuntu but if I understood correctly, it does not create an extra partition.
From what I have understood, it’s possible to install both Windows and Ubuntu side by side, you just have to pick an initial Ubuntu installation of the day, wipe the old one, reinstall and choose on every time you want to change the OS.
As per the answer that @Aldissk gives. But if you want the disk to be mounted, then you don’t want to do that.

I am a long time Linux user and while having some troubles with PC (think hardware issues) I decided to install Linux again and after some search and reading found xlock.
It has a lot of additional configuration options, supports for single instance locking or remote locking, password protection etc. And the best way is, it supports scripting like most apps with Linux (such as crontab or xlock.sh).
