Cecconoid follows the exploits of an 8-bit samurai, as he traverses the universe in search of the secret of life. Unlike a lot of 8-bit shooters that just put you in a spaceship and let you shoot stuff, Cecconoid tasks you with channelling your inner Pac-Man and devouring dark matter.
In this game, you shoot evil robots, and the only thing separating you from them is the fact that they lack fingers and legs. Their evil lights in their red eyes may be shut, but there’s no need for you to be in awe of them, because they have no limbs, they have no feeling, and they’re just as helpless as you are.
Meanwhile, your ship, the Exolon, is being hacked from the inside out by a bunch of robotic intruders. They are led by the infamous Stormlord, an evil multi-legged robot who needs the Equinox to keep his shady time portal. The fate of your ship is in your hands, and you have to stop the evil robots from stealing the secret of life, and using it to cheat you into eternal servitude!

It’s been quite a few years, I’m sure you’re wondering, since you have enjoyed my columns over at Eternity Under Siege, and while I was perfectly happy to fill my free time with the repetitive pastimes of revision and editing, I am indebted to you for making me realise that, in truth, I didn’t want my words to die in edited form. So, from now, I pledge to be at least semi-regular with my columns – but don’t expect to see any old ones! May I suggest, for now at any rate, something along the lines of the Christmas-themed pieces I have christened traditions, linked to numbers 1 to 8 in the list below? No? All right, you’re a very good boy.
Here’s the theme: “Twelve Days Of Christmas,” which I have divided into eight distinct pieces focusing on each day’s peculiar benefits.

You play as Nick, who for mysterious reasons has been transported into a large, new home, and is trapped inside the two-room “game room” that makes up the first floor. In these rooms, you must use your wits to reveal the location of a suspiciously hidden switch, which will open a secret passage and set you free.
As you solve the problems of Room One and two, and unlock the secret of Room Three, you may come face to face with the sinister Poo.
Getting started is as simple as it can be. Or not.
Poo asks you a series of challenging questions in each room. As you answer, you may be able to avoid certain outcomes, or worse yet – find yourself trapped in one of the rooms for the duration of the game.
If that happens, you have a few options. You can simply change rooms. You can wait for your room to change back, and repeat the process. But if you are clever enough, you may be able to convince Poo to change you back to the room from which you just exited.
Of course, the secret to escaping Poo’s questions is hidden in the game room itself – you have to figure it out on your own.
The result of your efforts will either be a happy ending, or – more likely – a tragedy. Because of this, you may find yourself playing this game multiple times. You may even be visited by your mother.
“The Room” is pure minimalism: It’s a game about the game – about the room you’re in. But the room has eyes, and has the capacity to remember what you do. Whether you succeed or fail, the room will remember you, and those you’ve played with.
